The Auxiliary Sketchbook

 …And sometimes I do what I want to do…

Introducing the Auxiliary Sketchbook.

The Auxiliary Sketchbook is a group for anyone that has an interest in architecture, is in need of a creative outlet and is able to play well with others… The group will meet on the LAST Sunday of the month (starting in May) for a total of 4 months leading up to an Art Exhibition in September.
(The Art Expo will be held in Old City Philadelphia)

During the sketch sessions, we will be given a short tour and brief historic overview of the buildings or spaces by my friend (and soon to be yours) Michael Spain. While sketching is encouraged, photographers are MORE than welcome! This years sketchbook theme focuses on the forgotten architecture of local Philadelphia Architect, Julian Francis Abele.

Almost There…

Sedgley Plaza is the complete transformation of a vacant property into a bright and progressive retail development.  Guided by the developer’s vision of reducing urban blight, the development serves as a new center of local commerce, and encourages community redevelopment.

The retail center is located in the Strawberry Mansion section of North Philadelphia on a one and one-quarter acre site, at the corner of Ridge and Sedgley Avenues.  It consists of 21,000 square feet of new retail development anchored by a Dollar General.  Site improvements also include new lighting, parking, landscaping, and an underground retention basin for stormwater management.

(That was the write-up that Blake and I generated for our firm’s marketing materials…)

So.

I am a little concerned about the Pylon sign… The contractor has brought it to my attention that there is a bus stop on that exact corner.

We ‘mirrored’ the orientation to work better with the rest of the building… BUT that leaves the EIFS on the street side.

God – I hope no one tags that jawn up.

Philly Flowers 2012

Each year, my mother and I try to head over to the Philadelphia Flower Show when it comes to town…

Well – this year was an added bonus because we even got the ‘men’ to join us this year!! (They actually had a section designated as the ‘Man Cave’- just for the Men!!)

I was actually on the look out for a new clematis to plant around my light post – but I ended up buying a few passion flower vines and some catnip for Cacao

Enjoy!
